The NY Times is great. But, for another reason why...
So, live during the debate, a reporter named Katharine Q. Seelye (a veteran political reporter) "blogged" or gave "real time analysis." Some of the hysterical shit she said:
9:41 p.m.
Bush tries a line that falls flat, though it's doubtful that he rehearsed this one. He says "it's not credible to quote'' leading news organizations, trying, what, to draw us back to CBS? Or is this just a slam on the old media? In any case, he quickly moved on and brought up... the Lewin report??!! What in the world is the Lewin report?? An Al Gore "Dingell-Norwood" moment.
9:33 p.m.
Bush should probably not laugh in response to a question about why health care costs so much.
9:24 p.m.
"Whew!!" Bush likes to underscore Kerry's answers with a "real guy response" when he thinks Kerry has given a dense answer; in this case, Kerry talked deeply about trade, with lots of specifics about what he would do.
9:20 p.m.
Kerry tries a practiced line that falls flat, that being lectured by Bush on fiscal responsibility is like being lectured by Tony Soprano about law and order.
9:18 p.m.
Bush says he "sent up my budget man" to Congress. A whiff of the lord of the manor sending one of his workers off on another task...
9:16 p.m.
Kerry is determined to respond to those uncommited voters from the last debate by offering details details details about his plan. Bush's response is to trash Kerry's voting record, for being a liberal from Massachusetts and, of all things, "a colleague of Ted Kennedy.''
Ahhh.. what a laugh. Other thoughts of mine on the debate. Same old rhetoric. Different Day. Though, once again, seeing George pissed was great. Slamming his fists on the podium and shouting was very professional. Good job! VOTE KERRY, PLEASE. Or Die. (Quite Literally).
