This weekend was eventful. It was somewhat laid back and fun yet somewhat exhausting and overly busy. I love Friday afternoons. Especially at like 4 pm when everything just seems to not matter as much. Work somewhat becomes lame and pointless and the excitement of the ever present weekend is basically upon you. Ahhh.. it is such a lovely feeling. So, anyways, my fun really doesn't begin until Saturday afternoon (once my lil sister left) when I started cooking for my big Halloween dinner which was planned for Sunday night. I slaved over the stove making Cream of Garlic soup and "Brain" cupcakes both of which came out deliciously. Once I was done slaving though, and Tom was done chatting online, we headed to the annual HRC dinner which took place at the Westin. It was a little repetitive, especially on the thanking of every single politician (like they need the warm regards), community leader, and State House janitor. Thankfully there was this hysterical Texan comedian woman who made the politics almost seem bareable.
A bunch of us headed home to quickly change into costume and head to the annual gay Halloween party (missing out, due to timing, on the one that had the PussyCat Dolls playing at it) in the South End which was jam packed full of hot boys in festive costumes. My favorite had to be an inbetween Superman, meaning he was dressed mostly as Clark Kent but Superman was poking out from his unbuttoned shirt. It was great, as was the Avian Flu and Hurrican Katrina costumes. I went as a Brazilian soccer player (I went spray tanning which I love and will do a lot now and stuffed package and all), Tom as a cowboy, my friend Matt as a lifegaurd, and my friend Carl as an Isreali Massad agent. The night was
nearly dreamy because the boy that I drooled over all night eventually called out to me (his pics are to
the left, and he is in the beater not shirtless.. shirtless in a gay party is just tacky) "Ronaldo" which got my attention since even though I wasn't going as Renaldo (the Brazilian soccer star), I knew who he was. Needless to say, we chatted but he seemed to be taken, as was I. lol. The run home (since I was in shorts and it snowed earlier in the day) was not fun. I sprinted in the what became a race and won, actually beating two track runners. cough*alcholics*cough. But this was only after my friend Matt got his shorts pulled down and Tom got a piggy back ride for like 3 blocks. lol.
Sunday was a rough start but once I packed in some coffee,
an espresso martini, and some pressed duck sandwiches I was good to cook until 7pm or six hours as it turned out. The cleanup is still in need of being done. The dinner party (plus scary movie) turned out to be a huge success even if it was my culinary debut. It turns out that cooking is a lot of fun yet a hell of a lot of work (six hours of prep for 10 people) for a matter of 10 or so minutes eating time. I got an awesome reception as my dinner was as follows: Cream of Garlic Soup for an appy, Pistachio-Pumpkin Seed, Chocolate Encrusted Pork Chop (which brined since Saturday morning, brining being a professional way of restoring the juices to the pork, which is why when a normal person cooks pork at home quickly for dinner one night, it tastes like sawdust), with Sauteed Greens and Mashed Sweet Potatoes with banana as a side. All followed by Brain Cupcakes and washed down with a great Pumpkin Pie martini recipe provided by BrianR. It was delicious. The movie, however, I did not see because of my inability to keep my eyes opened. I literally saw less than five minutes of it.
All in all, it was a good time.
