I went to South Beach for the weekend to head to the world's biggest and best art fair which turned out to be not that exciting actually. The art wasn't...not South Beach. South Beach was fantastic. Beautiful weather everyday, I got in more hours of beach then I should have, and we got to eat two very awesme dinners. A lot of artists are regurgitating everything and everyone that has come before them (and not in a good manner) while everything else from the already well established artists has already been bought leaving not a lot to look at. I nearly wanted to destroy the 16th Rauschenberg when I saw it, since I thought a whole gallery full of them was just TOO much. The people looking at the art in the main event were OMG rich and had NO TASTE whatsoever. Running to get a Warhol is just ridiculous. People are unloading them like dirt from a back ho in Utah. The parties and art at Pulse and Nada (New Art Dealers) were much better, Pulse being my favorite while NADA looked like an unorganized art school show. The Scope show which took place in hotel rooms in one of the hotels on the beach left a lot to desire. The art was just a near waste of time. I am sorry for being so negative about the entire thing but the best thing about the time was Pulse, the crates on the beach, the beach, and the life changing discussions I had with myself and Jerry at dinner and when I stared at the ocean listening to my Ipod, which I did both mornings. A future blog about these descisions is coming, for sure, this week. Why I got back on a plane to head into 20 degree weather I am not sure but we are supposed to be getting 6 inches in Boston which is never good (on all fronts) and when I arrived into my apartment last night to a room without electricity and because of it no heat, I nearly killed everyone around me.
