No Major Shake-Ups in Michelin’s N.Y. Ratings - New York Times.
When Michelin released the ratings from its second annual guide to New York City restaurants and hotels this morning, one of the four highest-ranked restaurants from last year’s guide had gone by the wayside.
Alain Ducasse at the Essex House, which last year received three stars, the guide’s top rating, was dropped from the guide this year because it plans to close and relocate in early January.
“This is a guide for 2007, and it was not right to keep it in,” said Jean-Luc Naret, the director of the guides. “We’ll reevaluate it when it reopens. They understand that.”
The other three top-rated restaurants in the city — Jean Georges, Le Bernardin and Per Se — retained their three stars in the new guide, and no others joined them.
Del Posto, a collaboration of the Italian restaurateurs Mario Batali and Joe and Lidia Bastianich received two stars in the new guide, an unusual achievement for a restaurant that opened in the previous year. Danube was reduced from two stars to one. The other three two-star restaurants from last year — Daniel, Masa and Bouley — held their ratings.
